The Ensign App Reviews

Excellent

Im rating this 5 stars because only 1 star amuses the developer, and this person makes me cry tears of laughter and blood, so this is well deserved. this game is infuriating and I adore it.

Piece of cake...

Piece of cake : met my shrink twice, then my lawyer; hacked iOS to get the level-5 howitzer and blast the defectroll on third turn. Ended up as a the mayor of a stupid forest hamlet to revive a bloody female witch-builder who called me a dictator, left me for a wanderer. Depressed — hence only four bloody stars.

Way too hard

Even when you learn what to do and what not, you go 5 times "straight" in hope of discovering anything, then you die of thirst. I dont see the point of a game where 50% of what you play are the first minutes because you die and lose everyrthing very often. Its not well balanced...

A worthy challenge

I have died countless times but I keep getting better & better - granted after x deaths things get easier and you start with a strategic advantage (katana, flask, leather) but you constantly have to be checking food, water, weapons... I love this game, very addictive!! Keep it up Amir, great job and I look forward to your next games.

Not as good as a dark room but a very nice game! Will recommend it!

Really...

...hard, really frustating, countless deaths. Loved it!

Great!

I already loved "A dark Room", and this Game is Even better. I really like how challenging this Game is, and the small notifications you get when starting over. GREAT GAME!

Great Game

Seriously you must play this game. Its grate... It teaches you and it changes your way of thinking... It teaches you to never give up. And thats what you should do while playing the game... Dont give up !

excellent

well thought gameplay. amazing. not a 0815 game. this is for the toughest only.

Love it- very challenging and addictive!

Beat the game in 6.5hours. Another amazing 99cent game. I loved The Dark Room and this prequel was just as engaging, philosophical and fun. Very challenging, which I love. The game taunts you and haunts you. Punishes and rewards you. What a beautiful yet minimalistic game. I cant say enough about it!! Not for the weak of mind this game takes lots of patience and perseverance but its worth it. :)

Funny

The funny thing is that there are no bad reviews because this is from the people who recently just beat ADR, :)

A great prequel to ADR

Finishing this game is so very satisfying!

Buy it now

Why are you even reading the reviews. Buy this game now. 10/10

Awesome, again!

Thank you for another great game. It was just as frustrating and addictive! Looking forward to the next one :)

let me on my hunger

not enough hard when u got medium gear it becomes too easy and too short! it left me on my hunger now im on my 2nd playthrough of the Dark Room and i want a sequel so bad!! make it happen

Hard?

More like unfair I find my outpost dont respawn when I need also the only time i make it farther it all luck

Brutally difficult, dark, intriguing

One of the best roguelikes out there. The Ensign is punishing, with frequent permadeath and a steep challenge curve. Its also intriguing and pulls you in over and over again, always seeking to discover the next secret.

Awesome game

Five out of five, great RPG experience, gotta be patient though.

Waste of time and money...

This game is buggy and needs work, a fair bit of it to say the least. It has frozen my phone a few times now. If I could give this app a .5 star rating I would. It has little rhyme or reason in the first 10 deaths you will experience...then it picks up stride and seems like youve made progress, comes across as interesting, and then you die again and start from scratch again. Not sure if it has save points or not, but after exploring a large area, sometimes it starts you back with absolutely nothing, and other times it shows a good chunk of what I explored, and remembers gear Ive found, albeit the wrong set. That said, if it does happen to revert to a "progress save point" it often forgets what equipment Ive found, will erases partial maps, slips backwards on the progress board and generally gives me the overwhelming feeling if chucking my phone. The game is boringly difficult in the early stages, until you are fairly lucky to catch a break and find rare equipment. Then it becomes a little easier, until you get attacked by a 200hp defector...in which case you die. And it will happen early when you have no chance if defeating him...not matter what. The developer believes hes being clever by building into the game taunting messages after you die...and often, as random as it seems, the devs also built in auto death moments where it doesnt matter what youve accomplished, you will die because its too early in the game to travel very far to find upgrades or food or the monster set is too much to overcome. Or even better, finding great gear only to die of dehydration because the devs forgot, or purposefully, to fill your water up when you hit a T, I, or an S. If the game had any kind of consistency...I might play it more...but as it is...its a phone chucking app at best, nothing more. OH! And by the way...The update will reset ANY progress youve made...youre starting over if you download the update. Terrifically well thought out, just brilliant! (Note sarcasm)

fearful and compelling

as a player and finisher of a dark room, i really enjoyed this game. I still havent beat it yet, but I havent given up. I cant stop playing. If you want to enjoy the game, youre going to have to be patient. It all gets easier, but not without a price. Thank you Amir, for another great game.
