An incredible experience
First off, Ill try not to spoil any part of the story with this review, and I sincerely apologize if I do. The first part will be a review of the game, and the second will be my experience with it
The Ensign is BY FAR one of my favorite games, on any system. The story is amazingly interesting, even after I know the whole of it, and the books are fascinating to me even though Ive read them all. The game has infinite replay ability, and I found, because of the text based style of the game, you can stop at any time except during battle to go do something, or just put it away for a little while. You dont need to keep playing like other games with graphics. This game is extremely hard, but once you learn how to play, its not too bad. Ive loved every part of this game, and dont regret buying it in the least
So, what are you waiting for! Buy The Ensign! And if you havent, buy A Dark Room too, and play it first! But give this game a chance. Dont delete it after you die a few times. I will say you cannot complete the game until you die twice to a certain something, so dont be disheartened there. Although the game is VERY challenging, its 100% worth it to play it to the end
P.S. - WATCH YOUR HYDRATION!!! Ive had a few stupid, face-palmy deaths because I didnt pay attention to how much water I had, including one refuse food run at 94% map completion, all areas cleared, where I was completely geared out, had everything set, and was just finishing up filling out the map. PLEASE dont do that to yourself!
Here is my personal experience with the ensign, to give a little more insight to what the game might be like.
I had loved playing A Dark Room, and after I had beaten it twice, I saw there was another game! I immediately bought it and started playing. I had read a review or two beforehand, so I knew it was going to be challenging, but I had no idea what was in store. I died. A lot. And then died some more. Back when I started playing, fist level carried over every time you played, so if you maxed it out, you were pretty much set. After beating the game, both accepting the food and refusing it, I left The Ensign alone for a while. Later on, I saw the game had an update, one that changed the way fist damage worked, along with other things. So I picked it back up. It shouldnt be to hard, right? Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope its hard. But now, looking back, I wouldnt have it any other way. I decided to throw myself right into the thick of things and refuse the food right off the bat. I died. A lot. But I still knew how to play the game, so I could get pretty far. IT IS POSSIBLE to beat it when you refuse food. Just very, very, VERY hard. So, with 100% completion, all yes-es on the final screen, I believe I know enough to make a review. The Ensign, is one of the best, if not the best games I have ever played. I love this game, and A Dark Room, completely. The stories are so well made, and the gameplay is amazing! If you havent played one or either of these games, I would very highly recommend it.
Now to beat the hardest version of God mode
